The office infrastructure guide

Your own data center.
Start with the work it needs to do.

Could your office run local applications, shared files or a private AI pilot? Start with the workload, then size the server, storage and protection around it.

A $12,000 planning target is a conversation starter—not a quoted PowerStore bundle. Hardware, licensing, backup, installation and ongoing support all affect the total.

1. Define the job. List the applications, users, storage growth and recovery targets. A file server and an AI workstation have very different requirements.

2. Separate compute from storage. Dell PowerEdge provides compute, with AMD EPYC options on selected models. PowerStore provides shared enterprise storage; it is a separate component that needs its own sizing and quote.

3. Protect the office. Include UPS capacity, network segmentation, tested backups, cooling, noise and secure physical access. A rack server may not belong beside a desk.

4. Model operating cost. As an illustration, a 500 W average load running continuously uses about 360 kWh in a 30-day month. At $0.15/kWh that is $54, before cooling and UPS losses. This is a planning example, not a measured Dell configuration.

5. Ask for a complete bill of materials. A $12,000 target may require a simpler local-storage design or a phased rollout. We will validate a configuration before recommending it.
